Dear Colleagues!
I congratulate you with St. Nicholas Day!
According to historical tradition, Nikolai was born somewhere between 270 and 286 AD in the city of Patara on the Lycia Peninsula, which is the territory of modern Turkey. The boy was the only son of Theophanes and Nonna – wealthy and deeply religious people. That is why from the first days they raised Nicholas in a religious atmosphere and christened him immediately after birth, which was rare in those days. When his parents died, he received a huge inheritance, but did not live in luxury, but distinguished himself with great generosity, helping the poor.
As the story of St. Nicholas tells us, he was a very honest and kind person. Seeing the difficult situation in which the poor people were, he helped them in every way. In order not to humiliate those in need with alms, he put his gifts under the doors and windows. Over time, people learned about Nikolai’s kindness and began to turn to him themselves. There is an interesting explanation why Nikolai often puts gifts in socks – according to legend, he wanted to help three poor sisters whom, due to poverty, no one wanted to marry. The family of the sisters lived very poorly, and Saint Nicholas decided to save them – he threw three bags of gold coins through the chimney. The bags fell into the house and hit exactly up to the socks of the sisters, they were hung to dry in front of the fire.
On this day, accept the wishes of a festive mood, good health, inexhaustible energy, inspiration and optimism!
May this fabulous holiday initiate new opportunities and achievements, fill your life with bright events and good deeds!
Yours faithfully,
President of the Assembly Yevhen Romanenko
